As Director of Human Resources and Talent at IDEA Public Charter School, you will spearhead our employee engagement and talent acquisition initiatives while supervising our HR manager and overseeing all HR functional operations. As part of our executive team reporting to the CEO, you will develop strategies to nurture our internal culture, enhance professional development and training offerings, and optimize our talent acquisition practices leading to increased overall job satisfaction and retention for current employees. Your success in this role will result in elevating our school’s reputation as a great place to work for outstanding educators and school professionals. In this role, you will be a trusted advisor for staff, a strategic partner to the CEO and executive team, and a champion for our culture.

Drawing on your HR leadership experience, you will create the strategy to recruit, onboard, and retain top talent while developing professional development opportunities so our people remain invested and grow with IDEA. You will create evaluation and goal-setting processes for faculty and staff, and streamline, upgrade, and automate HR functions in alignment with our newly updated strategic plan. Work Environment, Salary, and Benefits

 

  • You’ll be a known and valued member of the IDEA school community working alongside colleagues and students at our Washington, DC, campus in historic Deanwood. Telework is available one day per week.
  • The budgeted salary range for this role is $90-135K with a comprehensive benefits package including generous PTO, and health, dental, vision, and life insurance.

 

Responsibilities

 

Talent Acquisition and Retention

  • Serve as a thought partner for the CEO and senior leadership team as it relates to human resources, talent management, and culture.
  • Network and build a talent pipeline with industry leaders, assess potential and ultimately attract the highest skilled and credentialed professionals to join IDEA.
  • Partner with senior leadership on organizational goals and strategy related to staffing and play a visible role in recruiting, interviewing, retention, and culture. and create and maintain job descriptions for all positions.

Human Resource Leadership

  • Plan, lead, develop, and implement policies, processes, training, and initiatives related to human resources and talent. You are ultimately responsible for making all HR and talent decisions with input from the CEO.
  • Direct or oversee the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; accommodations; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, culture, and training and development.
  • Spearhead the employee evaluation process; train and support managers on how to enhance employee performance by giving appropriate and timely feedback; manage and enhance staff celebrations and recognitions.
  • Develop and maintain a system of transparency to support a connection between staff and leaders.
  • Develop aligned training programs/seminars that target the growth areas of all employees and schedule such training; support employees in acquiring certification and licenses as relevant.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations to include grievances and investigations.
  • Monitor and ensure the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; review and modify policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; apply this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.

 

Qualifications

 

  • A bachelor’s degree and at least five years of human resource management experience are required. A Master’s degree in Human Resources or a related field is preferred.
  • Prior experience as an HR or talent director in a relatable environment
  • SPHR or SHRM-SPC is strongly preferred. PHR or SHRM-CP is required or, must become certified within 5 months of employment.
  • Clearance of background checks as required by local, state and federal regulations.
  • Evidence of compliance with DC COVID-19 vaccine mandate.
